Product Description

AACSR (All Aluminum Alloy Conductor Steel Reinforced) is a high-strength overhead conductor that features a core made from galvanized steel strands, reinforced with outer layers of high-strength aluminum alloy wires. This unique construction combines the excellent mechanical strength of steel with the superior conductivity and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy.

Application

AACSR conductors are designed for long-span power transmission and distribution lines where high tensile strength and durability are essential. Compared to traditional ACSR conductors, AACSR offers improved corrosion resistance, lighter weight, and enhanced conductivity, making it ideal for harsh environmental conditions such as coastal and industrial areas.

FAQs

How is AACSR conductor installed?

AACSR (Aluminum Alloy Conductor Steel Reinforced) conductors are installed using controlled tension stringing methods to protect the alloy strands from surface damage:
Setup & Unwinding: The conductor is pulled off steel or wooden payoff drums through traveler sheaves mounted on transmission towers using tensioners and pullers, ensuring the wire never touches the ground.
Tensioning & Sagging: The conductor is tensioned to exact engineering sag limits based on span length, tension parameters, and ambient installation temperatures.
Clipping-In: Once proper sag is achieved, the conductor is secured into suspension/strain clamps using preformed armor rods and fitted with Stockbridge vibration dampers to protect against wind-induced fatigue.

What is the conductivity of AACSR conductors?

The electrical conductivity of AACSR conductors is determined primarily by their outer aluminum alloy strands (typically 6201-T81 series), which offer a conductivity of approximately 52.5% to 53% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard).
While this is slightly lower than pure EC-grade aluminum (61% IACS), the aluminum alloy provides substantially higher mechanical strength. Power flows predominantly through the outer alloy layers due to the skin effect at grid frequencies (50Hz/60Hz), while the central steel core provides tensile strength with minor electrical contribution (around 8%–10% IACS).

Why do we use AACSR conductors for transmission?

AACSR conductors are selected for high-voltage transmission lines operating under extreme environmental and mechanical conditions due to key performance benefits:
Extreme Mechanical Strength: Combining high-strength aluminum alloy strands with a central steel core yields maximum breaking load capacity, exceeding standard ACSR or AAAC.
Heavy Ice & Wind Resistance: Engineered specifically for extra-long transmission spans or mountain regions subject to severe ice accretion and high wind loads.
Reduced Line Sag: Superior tensile rigidity minimizes conductor sag, allowing engineers to increase span distances between towers and lower overall transmission line construction costs.

What is the price of AACSR wire 2mm?

The wholesale B2B price for AACSR wire with a ~2mm strand/wire diameter typically ranges from $0.18 to $0.65 USD per meter, depending on exact stranding configurations and steel core ratios.
Because AACSR prices fluctuate with daily London Metal Exchange (LME) spot rates for aluminum alloy and steel, final pricing depends on:
Material Specifications: Aluminum alloy grade (6201 vs. 1120) and steel galvanization class (Class A, B, or C).
Order Volume & Packaging: Total kilometer quantity and reel packaging specifications (wooden or steel drums).

What is the minimum bending radius of AACSR conductor?

The recommended minimum bending radius for AACSR conductors during unwinding, handling, and installation is 12 to 15 times the conductor’s overall outer diameter (D).
For example, an AACSR conductor with an outer diameter of 20 mm requires a minimum bending radius of 240 mm to 300 mm. Maintaining this bending threshold is essential during stringing to prevent permanent deformation, strand birdcaging, or damage to the protective zinc coating on the central steel core.
